The Buffaloes hosted the Martinsville Bulldogs Wednesday night and came away with a hard fought 63-60 victory.  The Floyd win halted the Bulldogs’ 13-game winning streak and looks like it also knocked them out of first place in the Class 2 Region C playoffs.

The victory likely puts Floyd County in third place in the Class 2 Region C playoffs. It also was some revenge for the Buffaloes as they had lost to Martinsville by 28 on the road back in  early January.

Isaiah Cantrell led the Buffaloes with 13 points. Noah Farley and Gavin Swortzel both produced 12 points each. Daecan Slaughter chipped with 12 and four big blocks. Swortzel had seven rebounds, while Chaycen Harman had five assists.

The Bulldogs (19-4, 11-1) got 16 points from Amari Foster, 15 from Zavion Tinsley, while JaCorion Turner came off the bench to knock down four threes to score 12 points.

Floyd County head coach Brian Harman said, “Huge win to wrap up the regular season. We wanted to set the tempo for the game and for the most part we did. Great game.”

The game was close throughout with the game being tied at 10 at the end of the opening quarter. Floyd was up 24-22 at intermission and 39-37 going into the final period.  Floyd County stretched their fourth quarter advantage to 10 at 55-45, but had to hold off the Bulldogs the last two minutes of the game. Floyd County upped their record to 18-4 and 8-4 in Three Rivers District play.

If the standings or points ratings are correct, Martinsville will host Gretna Friday and Floyd County would host arch rival Radford.  Floyd lost to Radford at Radford by two points on a last second shot, but beat the Bobcats last Friday at Floyd in overtime by one point.

Game time to be announced for the Friday’s game at Floyd County.
