It was a chilly Senior Night in Narrows as the Green Wave rushed for 385 yards enroute to a 47-16 victory over the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs.
Senior running back Cooper Helvey scored two touchdowns as he rushed for a game-high 264 yards on 15 carries. Fellow Senior QB Tucker Bryan ran for two scores and threw for two. He finished with 66 yards rushing and passed for 81 more.
Narrows (3-5) scored early and often, as Bryan scored on the third play of the game on a 10-yard run. They would go up 13-0 on a Helvey 21-yard jaunt with 5:36 showing in the first quarter. They would then expand their lead to 20-0 as Bryan hit Elijah Knoetze over the middle in the endzone. Helvey’s kick was good with 3:04 remaining in the open period.
The second quarter saw the Green Wave score twice more with Tucker Bryan hitting brother Parker Bryan on a 15-yard strike for six, and Helvey scoring with 2:44 left in the first half on an eight-yard run. His point after upped the lead to 34-0, as that was the intermission score.
Narrows would light up the scoreboard with 5:23 left in the third with Tucker Bryan taking the snap from center and running off tackle for a 13-yard touchdown, as Helvey would kick the point after for a 40-0 score.
Eastern Montgomery (1-8) would finally score on the first play of the fourth quarter as Chase Bierman scored on a 19-yard run around left end. Owen Clatterbuck would then run in for the two-point conversion, making it 40-8.
The Mustangs would then recover a Narrows fumble before Parker Wonner hauled in a 20-yard pass from Bierman for the score. Clatterbuck ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 40-16 with 10:33 remaining.
Narrows on their next possession would score on a Thomas Tate two-yard plunge and Helvey’s conversion made it 47-16.
“ I’m proud of our four seniors,” said Narrows head coach Kelly Lowe. “Helvey and Tucker (Bryan) came up big as did Thomas Tate and Logan Brown. Those four have helped lead this team and kept the faith. I thought our offensive line played really well tonight. We needed this one. This was a great way to send our four seniors out with a win.”
Eastern Montgomery got 72 yards from Bierman and wide receiver Kellan Stewart caught seven passes for 76 yards.
Narrows will now hit the road taking on undefeated Craig County next Friday, Oct 31 at Craig County. The game will be for first place in the Pioneer District.
