GALAX – Coming off an open date from last week, the Radford Bobcats didn’t miss a beat Friday night as they rolled over the hosting Galax Maroon Tide, 49-7.
Radford scored early and often with Pace Prioleau scoring on two punt returns and also on a 12-yard run. The punt returns were 66 and 64 yards, as he accounted for 168 total yards.
Besides Prioleau’s three first-quarter scores, Braylon Wray made a tackle in the end zone for a safety to give the Bobcats the lead 22-0 after the opening quarter.
Radford would build their lead to 29-0 with 5:56 showing in the second quarter as Tucker Williams scored from five yards out and Luciano Pugliese’s kick was good for a 29-0 advantage.
Galax would get on the scoreboard as Trey Markham picked up a fumble and scored with just 12 seconds before intermission. It was the first points allowed by Radford in three games.
The Bobcats (3-0) would strike right back with the clock hitting all zeros as QB Peyton Dobbins hit Trenton Carter for a 52-yard touchdown for a 36-7 intermission lead.
They would score two more times in the third quarter as running back Matthew McGuire bulled his way in from three yards out, but the kick was no good to make it 42-7. They would score again with 6:09 remaining in the quarter when Brady Sutherland picked up a blocked punt and ran it in for six, with Youseff Elhady splitting the uprights to make it 49-7 Radford.
The Bobcats would then play their third string with a running clock for the rest of the game. They had held the Maroon Tide to only 59 total yards.
Radford head coach Michael Crist said, “It was a great team win. We can’t turn the ball over and allow a scoop and score. We have to get better at some things.” He then added, “Overall, I’m proud; our execution was really good. Effort was good, and lots of guys got to play.”
Radford once again will be on the road next week as they travel to James River in a Three River District game. It will be Radford’s fourth consecutive road game!
