Fort Chiswell beats George Wythe in Wytheville

The Fort Chiswell Varsity Boys Basketball Team entered into the hostile Dungeon at George Wythe High School on Tuesday night with one purpose and that was to win. The night belonged to Pioneer sophomore Owen Jackson, who torched the Maroon defense for 39 points, nine rebounds, and went 17 for 22 from the free throw line. In the game, Jackson reached the 1,000 point mark right before half-time on a jumper from the top of the key that put FC ahead 38-24 and which put him ahead in the Virginia High School League Record Books for fastest player to reach the 1,000 point mark. If that wasn’t enough, Jackson also had a crowd pleasing two handed dunk to put the Pioneers up 52-30 in the third quarter and they would never look back as FC earned the 76-58 victory over GW.

George Wythe struggled on the offensive end all night as their leading scorer, David Goode left the game with two fouls, two points, and a knee injury in the first quarter. However, the Pioneer Defense was locked in from the tip as it forced many turnovers. Kenton Sutphin would play a huge part in the Marron miscues as he ended up with 3 steals and 8 points for the Pioneer Defense.

Along with some solid defense, Ty Crockett, Landon Eversole, and Jessie Ayers all hit big three point baskets for the Fort with Crockett ending the night 2 for 3 from behind the arc. Eli Eversole also did his part for FC in the paint as the Junior notched 9 points and 7 rebounds in the win.

George Wythe (9-2) was led by Nash Gilman’s 13 points and aided by Isaac Smith and Aiden French who also broke into double figures.
