The defending Class1 State Baseball Champion Auburn Eagles saw two of their senior players sign this week to play baseball next season at Concord (WV) University, as Matthew Altizer and Brody Hensel will continue their athletic careers and their education.
Altizer hit .407 last season and had 15 extra-base hits. He started six games on the mound and finished with a 4-0 record. Hensel finished last season hitting at a .474 clip and also stroked 15 extra-base hits.
Both were big in contributing to last season’s state championship run, as well as regular season Mountain Empire and Regional championships.
When Matthew was asked why Concord he replied saying, “Coach Drew Bailey there is good at developing players and he believes in me. It’s close to home and there’s a good opportunity there.”
Brody was then asked about committing to Concord and he replied by saying, “Coach Bailey runs a really good program there. I like the coaches and they have had lots of success. I want to be a part of that success.”
Auburn head baseball coach Eric Altizer said, “So proud of these guys. It’s really awesome to see them continuing to get an education and to play baseball.” He then added, “I’ve been around these two for years. They have played in summer league ball and have worked hard. These two now means we have five guys in college ball come next season. That says a lot about our baseball program and the kids’ dedication.”
