In a game that started on Wednesday and finished on Thursday, the Auburn Eagles trounced the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs, 14-1.

The two teams played just an inning and a half before the rain suspended the game until Thursday. The game re-started in the bottom of the second, and Auburn came out swinging. They sent 14 batters up in the inning, scoring nine runs and collecting seven hits.

They would score two in the third, and three more in the fourth to take a 14-0 lead.

Eastern Montgomery got their only run in the top of the fifth with Xavier Gonzalez drawing a lead-off walk. He moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on a single by Brayden Kingery. Mason Phoenix took the loss as he lasted just 1.1 innings. He gave up nine runs, six hits, and walked three.

All nine starters for the Auburn Eagles scored at least a run, picked up a hit, and knocked in at least one. Matthew Altizer was three for four, scored two runs, and had three RBI. Canyon Calhoun had three RBI, Brody Hensel had three hits, scored three runs, and knocked in two. He had a single, a double, and a triple. Altizer got the win as he tossed the first two innings. He gave up just one hit and struck two. Calhoun came in to pitch and went the last three innings. He struck out eight and gave up one run on one hit.

Auburn head coach  Eric Altizer remarked, “We came out a little sluggish yesterday, but we came out today being aggressive at the plate.  Matthew (Altizer) and Canyon (Calhoun) pitched well, and we got production from top to bottom of the lineup.”

Auburn, with the win, improved to 18-4 and advances to the Class 1 Region C semi-final. They will host the Giles Spartans on Monday, June 1, at 5 pm.
