Floyd beats Radford, advances  to Class 2 Region C Semi-finals

Playing for the third time this season Friday, the Floyd County Buffaloes defeated the Radford Bobcats 62-55. The win advances the Buffaloes to the Class 2 Region C semi-finals. Radford won the first meeting on a last second shot. The second game Floyd won a one-point game in overtime.

Floyd’s 6-6 sophomore Daecan Slaughter scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the second half and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Noah Farley had 11 points and three steals, while Gavin Swortael chipped in with 10 points.

Radford (14-7) got 15 points apiece from David Apple and Pace Prioleau. Colton Garner- Rollins scored 12 in the loss, with eight of those coming in the second half.

The game was a game of runs for the two teams. Floyd was up 18-15 after the opening period and was up 28-27 at intermission.

The Bobcats came out in the third quarter to go up 40-33 as they went on a 13-5 run to go up 40-33 .

Floyd County (19-4) then ripped off an 11-0 run to go up 44-40 late in the third and would take a 47-43 advantage into the final quarter. The third quarter was the Daecan Slaughter show as he took over on both ends of the court.

Floyd County head coach Brian Harman said, “It was a game of mini-runs. Heck of a game as it was back and forth. Radford and Floyd are always exciting and they are well coached.” Coach Harman then remarked, “I’m blessed. Blessed to coach these guys, blessed to have these assistant coaches and blessed by this community.”

The win advances Floyd County to the Class 2 Region C semi-finals next Wednesday, February 25 at Franklin County High School to take on the Gretna Hawks.
