Grayson County overpowers the Maroons

Playing on a sunny late Friday afternoon, the visiting Blue Devils of Grayson County defeated the George Wythe Maroons, 14-6 in a Mountain Empire District contest.

Grayson County scored in every inning except the third. Makray Goad led them at the plate, going three for four, scoring four runs and knocking in one.  Maverik Goad, Braeden Ward, Mason Carrico and Troy Stockner all had two hits apiece. Maverik Goad had three RBI, and Stockner had two RBI. Eight players for Grayson had at least one hit, seven had at least one RBI, and seven scored at least one run.

The Blue Devils scored a run in the first and two in the second. They would then score five in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth inning.

Austin Bryant picked up the win on the mound as he threw 3.1 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits. He struck out four and issued one walk.

George Wythe got two hits from Cannon Woods. Woods had two RBI, as Cam Skeens and Cayden Bement each had one RBI. Skeens had two hits and Bement one. Cade Bralley scored twice, as did Bement.

Grayson County head coach Stephen James said, “We got some key hits and Austin ( Bryant) pitched well enough. We took advantage of some errors, too.”

Cam Skeens took the loss as he went 3.2 innings. He gave up eight runs and seven hits. Of those eight runs, just three were earned as the Maroons committed six errors in the game. Just six of the 14 runs were earned off the Maroon pitchers.

Grayson County, with the win, improved to 5-4, and George Wythe’s record fell to 1-7.
