Lady Cougars hold on to beat Floyd, go to 2-0

The Pulaski County Lady Cougars basketball team upped their season record to 2-0 last week, holding on to beat Floyd County, 56-54.

Pulaski County got off to a hot start right off the bat, jumping out to a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Kaliyah Green led the was for the Lady Cougars scoring seven points in the quarter. Ellie McDonald and Chacha Calfee added four apiece.

The Lady Cougars maintained their double-digit lead through the second quarter. Palyn Sweet got in on the scoring with seven points in the quarter to lead the Cougars to a 35-23 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Sweet hit three of six free throws and Calfee added two buckets to keep Pulaski County up by 12 at the end of the third.

In the fourth, Floyd County mounted a rally behind Natalie Morris’ 13 point eruption, which included five field goals and three-of-four shooting from the line.

The Lady Cougars were able to hold on, however, thanks to the free throw shooting of Sweet who hit four-of-six from the line.  Dayonna Lewis added four points and Green chipped in two more to keep the Cougars ahead.

Sweet led the Cougars with 16 points and Calfee added 10 with Green chipping in nine.

Morris took game-high scoring honors with her 21 points for Floyd County. Addison Allen added 10 and Karliegh Wade collected nine.

Pulaski County goes for their third straight win Tuesday night as they entertain Cave Spring in the Cougar Den. The varsity game will start around 7 p.m. following the Junior Varsity contest.
